Eric Lemmon’s Bio

Eric Lemmon is a sound artist, electroacoustic musician, and composer whose work exists at the intersection of sound, technology, and political discourse. Driven by an exploration of how musical technologies shape—and are shaped by—the cultural and socio-political contexts in which they exist, Lemmon’s practice explores the fluid boundaries between composition, performance, and materiality.

His music is as challenging as it is provocative: built using custom analog electronics, no-input mixing, everyday materials like glass, metal, and cermaics, and processes that embrace variation and instability. Performances of recent works are often unique, a living exploration of sound systems that evolve in real time. His work often interrogates the embedded power dynamics and ideological structures woven into musical institutions and technological tools.

Lemmon’s work have been presented at diverse venues from grassroots spaces like (le) Poisson Rouge and SubCulture to established venues such as the DiMenna Center for Classical Music and FIGMENT on Governors Island. His work has garnered national critical attention, with coverage in The New York Times and broadcasts on WQXR in NYC and Classic 107.3 in St. Louis. He has been awarded numerous fellowships, grants, and residencies, including the MetLife Creative Connections Grant, Puffin Foundation support, and DAAD fellowships. His trajectory also includes a Ph.D. in composition from Stony Brook University and artist residencies at Can Serrat, Tofte Lake Center, and Westben, among others.

An ongoing commitment to collaboration and collective practice characterizes Lemmon’s career. He is a member of the experimental collective Ensemble Decipher and founded composers’ collective Circles and Lines, and has written works for performers such as Yarn/Wire, Cadillac Moon Ensemble, and Jacqueline LeClaire.

low pass is comprised of percussionists/sound artists Rob Cosgrove (Minneapolis) and Taylor Long (North Dakota / New York). The project’s focus is centered on performing works primarily written by and for the ensemble, particularly by emerging composers. Although ostensibly a percussion duo, this project foregrounds interests in electronics, repurposed objects, noise, and improvisation.

Recent activities include the premiere of Eric Lemmon’s large-scale work Reticulations for percussion duo and live electronics at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation (St. Louis), low pass’s debut album four drums for speakers, a performance at Transplanted Roots Percussion Research Symposium (Portugal), and an ongoing collaboration with composer Scott Miller titled Figure and Ground.

Other projects include installation/performance Stations at the Bard Center for Experimental Humanities; the premiere of Judy Dunaway’s Latexorcism [odtp:tsbh], a five-movement work for balloons commissioned by the duo; a university tour in trio format with guitarist/composer Matt Sargent; and an artist-residency at EMPAC (Troy, NY) working alongside composer Mirtru Escalona-Mijares and artist Ana Navas, and a residency at Practice Gallery (Philadelphia) to present Rob’s installation/performance Broadcast Presence.
